With wedding season just around the corner, now’s the perfect time to look for inspiration for your own upcoming nuptials… and a lasting trend for ceremonies these days is sustainability and how you can make your day both perfectly memorable and eco-friendly, all at the same time.
The good news is that there’s a huge amount you can do to reduce the environmental impact of your wedding and your first step is to think about where you want to have the ceremony.
A destination wedding might seem like a wonderfully romantic idea, but think about the carbon footprint of having to whisk all the guests out to your chosen location.
To be greener about it, consider finding somewhere that will require the fewest number of car journeys or flights - and also think about picking somewhere close to public transport networks, if possible.
Another way to be more sustainable with wedding planning is to devise your menus carefully. Look out for organic, local produce and perhaps even think about only eating seasonal dishes, so that food won’t have had to travel far to reach your plate. Going vegan with your menu could reduce your impact even further!
And while it might be lovely to send out actual invitations and save-the-date cards through the post, you can really reduce your impact by going completely digital and setting yourself up a wedding website. Send the link out to people so they can keep up to date with everything that’s going on.
You can always invest in a few beautiful invitations for those unable to go online - and this means you’ll have something tangible to keep for yourselves, as well.
